Question About FedEx Office
« on: December 03, 2015, 02:05:14 PM »
I've had all of my packages held at the FedEx office for pickup in the past.  I've always wondered what their system says is in the box (if at all) when they look it up in the computer before you sign for your stuff.  Do you guys have any info on this?

If it is a domestic shipment, very little from what I could remember.  Pretty much just address, weight, and whatever the outside labeling will indicate.  On the packaging fill-out form for ground and express there isn't any field for content type.  For international shipments, there is the customs declaration form and shipment form, both of which will have a section for content types.  The shipper declares the item on these forms for international shipments.  For domestic, none except general commodity type when opting for coverage on the declared value.  Packages will still get flagged for traits such as smell, appearance of the box (torn, improper taping), leaking fluids, smoke, etc.

TLDR: International, yes, declared by the shipper.  Domestic, not really, just commodity type like "toy", "consumer electronics", "personal effects", etc when opting for declared value coverage (I think it was $150+ as the threshold).  When doing pickups it's pretty much entered in to the system as a (Phone, Name, weight, how many pieces, tracking number).

Pretty much only way to guess what is in it is by the shipper for domestic shipments.

Source: previous occupation from what I could remember.

ecchi_sama is correct, all of our packages are discreet and nobody knows what is inside of the packages except for you. The personnel at the FedEx office also do not know what are in the packages. For international packages (outside of the US) we declare items in the package as "Novelty Toys".
