Suggestions on how do you discreetly hide your toys?
« on: July 17, 2013, 05:44:05 AM »
So the last toy I had was a Love Body inflatable doll. It was easier to hide but to much work to start. By the time I finished setting up, I lost the mood. Now I'm looking into getting the bigger toys, example Hera Hip or Meiki Plush, and an looking for clever suggestions on how some of you hide have hidden your toys? Not including the usual under the bed or top of the closet.

What basic psychology tactics have you used to keep people from opening a box? Label the box "school books"?

Or maybe a wooden chest with lock and key?

As my deceased uncle once said, "With bigger toys, comes bigger responsibility."

I got into the bigger toys around February and haven't been caught yet. When people come over I keep them in the closet, in the brown boxes they were shipped in. If I'm feeling particularly worried (say, kids around who think nothing's off limits) then I put the boxes as far back into the closet's corner as possible and hang up a bunch of clothes in front of it.

The mindset I have is I know that if someone is really digging around they're gonna find stuff, but I try to keep it hidden well enough that if someone were to casually open my closet and glance inside, they wouldn't see them. At some point people need to respect your privacy.

You can't hide anything from a determined and thorough search.  So you have to decide the level of search that you're likely to have.

I'm a fan of the purloined letter strategy, which means having it out where it won't be seen, but not obviously hidden.

1. Don't put it in places where people who ARE searching are going to want to look--the top of your closet, the back corner of your closet, under some clothes in a dresser drawer, etc.

2.  Find a box or a storage tub that it'll fit in.  If it's a storage tub, put stuff on top of it that nobody will care about.  If you have a seashell collection, put them in that box on top so it looks like the box is full of seashells.

If you have an old product box -- I have one that holds a big chess set that's about the right size.  You can put it in that.  The key is to find a product that someone wouldn't want, but would look *right* for you to have.

A printer/copier paper box might work.  You put the toy in the bottom and put a couple reams of paper on top (if you're worried about deforming the toy, you'll have to make up somethng to support the weight of the paper).  That shouldn't get anyone's attention.  Just make sure you have enough paper on top that if someone takes a ream, they won't uncover the toy.

3. Study magic.  Magicians live and die on things that look like other things.  Boxes with false bottoms, false sides, hidden compartments.  Things that look like something on the outside but are just hollow shells to cover something else.

A good example from the magic category:  check out your furniture.  There's a lot of empty space in chairs, sofas, the box-springs for beds, etc.

I used to keep most of my sleeves in those zipper toy bags and put 5 or 6 of them in empty shoeboxes.. then they get stacked on the top shelf of my closet... not that anyone would be looking for my toys but I have many shoeboxes on the top of the closet that contains old dusty items so most of the time people won't be looking there anyways..

This idea is more about explaining your male toys if found, but I'll just add it here since it might be useful.

Simply this -- get a girl toy like a vibrator.  That might make it easier to explain -- you can say these are toys from a previous relationship.  If your toy collection is smallish, the presence of a girl toy or two should sound pretty plausible, and it takes the focus off just you.

(Key to lying:  base it on an actual event of some kind.  It's way easier to lie when there is some truth to a story... you're just "bending" the truth.  Embellish as needed to fit your alibi, but otherwise use real details.  Easier to remember that way too.)

Good luck!  I'm stashing mine in a shoebox on a high shelf of a closet filled with a lot of other stuff.  If found by my wife (unlikely; she can't easily reach that high and generally leaves my stuff alone), and if I don't want to be honest, I can just say it was from an earlier "dry spell" in our relationship (of which there have been several... we have kids.... 'nuff said).

hmm, the Meikis come with a white box so I had them in their original packaging during storage time on the top shelf of my closet. The newer EXE toys, don't have a discreet box so I just put stuff in front of them, clothes that I don't wear to build a wall. After play/clean time, I take them out and leave them on top of a towel to dry any excess water in the bathroom closet. Just put them in the back and some more towels in the front to block them from view.
