49 Days, K-Drama (Highly recommended 5/5!)
« on: February 19, 2013, 08:47:08 AM »
I just finished watching the Korean Drama 49 Days and I highly recommend it. There are NO spoilers in this post. Here is the plot synopsis:

"After an accident shatters her storybook life, a comatose woman gets a second chance at life when a reaper from above intervenes. But there's a catch."

This is one of the best K-Dramas I have ever seen. Really, really moving and well-acted. It is amazing because Korean Dramas are able to accomplish what Latin Dramas aim for without all the tits and ass. Don't get me wrong, I love tits and ass but K Dramas are much more tasteful and well-made.

I'm watching ep. 1 right now. I never managed to sit through drama, let's see if this is any different  :P
Edit: okay, got through ep. 1 although I often screamed a the screen LOL. The story is pretty entertaining.
Top recommendations 1: Julia + (intense, realistic sensations at a not-so-intense price) 2: First Sexual Experience (personal favorite)
3: Wet Meiki SHIN (revolutionary soft but gripping material). Honorable Mention: Tomax 2D Wavy Ripple (great for transition hand-> toy)

I hope you like it! This and City Hunter are my two favorite K-Dramas so far.

Hey DaaBears! I think you'll like it. Just tell your friends you were watching Breaking Bad or football and sneak off to watch it ;).

Here's a fun activity for you and Flammaz, something that happens in EVERY Korean drama is the fabled "arm grab". Try and count how many times per episode a girl gets her arm grabbed by a guy. This rarely happens in USA dramas. It's also interesting seeing how different cultures interpret being cute/pouty.

It would be interesting to continue observing differences between Korean/American culture. My girlfriend is Korean so I learn a lot about what is expected by watching these dramas. The funny thing is she hates Korea and refuses to watch K-Drama with me. She would rather watch Walking Dead or American Horror Story.

If you liked City Hunter.........then I shall give this series a go.

First ever K-drama I watched was City Hunter, started slow at first then got interesting. Became a fan of Park Min-Young afterwards and watched a couple more k-drama with her in it!! So far all the k-dramas I watched had her in it.

Loved City Hunter, so when I find time I am going to start 49 days!

I also tried watching Pasta but I don't recommend it at all. Many people also say Lie To Me is good but I watched two episodes and it was BORING. Maybe it will get better? Hope you like 49 Days, I sure did :). just make sure nobody sees you cry

I have Netflix and the only thing worth watching on Netflix are the foreign films 99% of the time.

So far I've seen Pasta,Protect the Boss, and Prosecutor Princess. They were all pretty dang good.

I agree with you on netflix. All the US movies on netflix are all movies that are old or I have seen them already. So foreign movies are all pretty awesome.

Has anyone seen the vengeance series of the korean movies? I remember it was Old Boy, Lady Vengeance, and another one I can't remember.

Those movies are so dark but at the same time with that twist that just fucks with your mind..........I love them though. Korean movies and drama are definitely on the rise for me.

Hey CaptainAwesome! I'm curious what you liked about Pasta? It kept my interest for a while, but I just got tired of how weak the main character was... I know Kdramas are misogynist but this one took it to another level in terms of how pathetic the protagonist was!

Here are some good finds on Netflix:

Lie To Me (American version), Walking Dead, Supernatural, Breaking Bad, American Horror Story, Louie, comedy shows in general, River Monsters!

Mostly I liked it because of the Chef. He was a real hard ass but he knew how to get the job done. It was just funny watching him busts everyone's balls including the owner of the restaurant.  I just didn't like how the girl "the main character" kept making him soft so he started to lighten up a bit. I also got kind of tired of her but because the other females around the restaurant looked hotter. Like the owners sister and his old flame Miss Korea, I mean the female head Chef.

Hahaha I totally agree with you. The main character was not hot at all. What bothered me about the show was that the protagonist showed little to no development. She went through all of these amazing, character building moments, and just when I thought she would become a strong woman she would do something passive again, or hang her head in shame again. I like strong female characters (one of the reasons I like 49 Days). As for the Chef, I liked him at first until I realized the actor's repetoire consisted of a total of two facial expressions ;)

So I watched it all, first drama I finished. Was pretty enjoyable, wished it was a little higher budget at some parts though. For example, if you marathon some episodes you hear the same songs/BGM over and over and over and over, lol. The writing was all right, though, no complaints there! The acting was mostly good, too. Worth watching.
But dear lord, that last episode was.. real shitty. lol.
Top recommendations 1: Julia + (intense, realistic sensations at a not-so-intense price) 2: First Sexual Experience (personal favorite)
3: Wet Meiki SHIN (revolutionary soft but gripping material). Honorable Mention: Tomax 2D Wavy Ripple (great for transition hand-> toy)

haha i totally agree with you! I wish they used some different songs too.. and I see how marathoning it could have gotten a bit tiresome with the same music playing all the time!
