Windows 8
« on: October 31, 2012, 11:56:27 AM »
I dropped by my local bestbuy yesterday to get a hands on the latest gadgets around...Although I really wanted to get a Macbook pro for my next notebook...I was quite amazed by the Ultrabooks many of the companies like Asus,Samsung, Lenovo etc are producing.. they are super thin and super sleek...

I got around to play with the new Windows 8 metro UI... I have to say it's not as bad as I thought from all the youtube videos i've watched of people confused by it.. given a few minutes playing with it and I started get how it works. It's almost a dual format on windows 8 where you can either use the touchscreen (for tablet notbook type notebook) Metro UI where everything is simple for everyday simple use like an ipad type tablet . Or you can always switch it to a desktop look like what we're all used to.

I think Microsoft have definitely improved on their craft..as far as TRYING to up a notch on creativeness and simplifying their OS for some people who just want simple app like buttons...But of course I don't own one to play enough to see if it crashes like all the old ones  :P  I wouldn't mind using one of them ultrabooks though.. I played on the Lenovo Yoga 13.. that thing is pretty sleek.

Pretty slick.

I wish they'd just make Windows XP-2

yeah or that hahah.. but for everyday normal use... these laptops are moving up to another level in being compact and lightweight, im just impressed... although I'm not sure how much capability they have in gaming side of things.. probably crappy in that sense.

Nice feedback man. I'm liking Windows 8 for desktop use even! I upgraded my PC to Win 8 Pro and it boots in like 5 seconds. A little faster than Win 7 all around and way slicker.

Anyone try the Microsoft Surface Tablet with Win8 or WinRT? I'm thinking of buying one to replace my mom's old desktop PC. All she does is Spider Solitaire, e-mail, web browsing so a mobile Windows 8 tablet seems to be the next logical progression. She is used to Windows all her life and would have probably hard time adjusting to iOS or android tablets so I'm sticking with Windows for her.

The surface looks cool, but that commercial really rubs me the wrong way.

If I didn't know any better, are they trying to sell a stand for a tablet!??! With all those dance moves and clicking sounds, like wtf!

I need to go into a store and check it out.

I think basically Apple launched the 4th gen iPad just to clash with the surface launch and trying to steal MS' thunder.

I really liked it, ever since its first demo, I always knew that it'd be something huge.

Though I can't afford to get one right now, those Lenovo laptops look pretty good with Windows 8 in them.
