Hello! I don't have much to say but hello!

Searching for a new laptop - Ontario, Canada
« on: October 07, 2012, 12:25:38 AM »
I am a tech... enthusiast so I know my stuff when it comes to getting gadgets and I even shop for others when it comes to upgrading their hardware.

Now comes the time when I see my friends having laptops (I personally own an Asus Transformer tablet), but I don't have one. I am interesting in owning a laptop that will replace my workhorse computer that will be reserved for gaming, while I work on Photoshop and other work-related things on my laptop (with an Wacom Cintiq 12").

I am looking for a 14" powerhouse and I do not take Toshiba, Dell or HP. Any suggestion is highly appreciated. As with price, I am flexible, but I am trying to find that equilibrium, so I am calling the power of the Internet to help me out (odd place, but I have asked elsewhere too). I heard some good things about the Sony VAIOs, but a lot of bad things prior to those good things; anyone lend a hand in this one?

I am actually looking at the same thing myself.

And TBH, I have been leaning towards Macbooks. A lot of my friends, who used to be PC enthusiasts, have switched to Macbooks and have said nothing but praise for them. Yes, the price is steep, but they have told me that the stability and the usability is just so much better. Besides, Macbooks are more for photoshop and graphic design as well?

I would personally go away from Vaios, I don't know if they have improved, but my friends have owned Vaios and the Sony brand name makes it expensive but it really isn't better and actually crapped out for them.

How about going back to Asus? I am a Asus Gamer's Republic laptop G73JW, it's huge and bulky but it actually runs games fairly well and has served me pretty well for the past 2 years. Are you looking for something light and small to travel with or does it not matter?

I am actually looking at the Asus Zenbook, Macbook Air, and Macbook Pro. Like you, I am looking to do some graphic work like photoshop and other regular computer use. May I ask what it is that you do?

If you ever watched the NHL then you have seen our work (I won't go into too much detail over public channels).

My occupation is graphic designer while my side jobs takes me as creative/design. So Photoshop, Illustrator and the good ol' pen and paper (and the other software).
I do more print-based work than web, but I am expanding into that once I acquire the right resources and networks.

I definitely thought of Macbooks as one of the options and I know a place that offers financing options. Trust me, if I could. The Macbook Pro is definitely mine. Asus is definitely a trusted name in my books (a lot of electronics in my house is Asus).
This will be my powerhouse on the go as well as desktop replacement. I am attaching either my oversized Wacom Intuos to it or getting a 12" Wacom Cintiq to accompany it. Something I can stare at while I draw.

I've been a PC person all my life...but I also have Macbook Pro on my wishlist for my next laptop to get...those things seems to be pretty good and simple to use...if not running any intensive graphics game i suppose.

They already had, at KeyNote.

The unfortunate thing about that is the pricing is way beyond what I like to pay for a machine with half the capabilities as its predecessors.
