Canadians: please tell about your ordering experience
« on: December 13, 2010, 12:26:37 AM »
I live in Toronto, and I am considering ordering a meiki product from TD.  What I would like to know is how the ordering process works for customers in Canada. I have read that there is no customs duty (btw, why is it so?), but I would have to pay tax (HST or whatever). I am curious how taxation works here. Basically, I don't want anyone from the customs or postal office call me and say something like "hey, there is a sex toy for you, and you need to pay tax on it". That would be really awkward. Another thing I was wondering about is those holes that they make at the border to check for drugs or something (someone on the forum here warned about this). Does it always happen? How bad are those holes? Is there any way to avoid that?

I would really appreciate your opinions and tips here, especially if you have some experience with importing sex toys into Canada. Thank you.

Yes, I live in T.O. as well.  Shipment arrived in 5day.  They were $80 worth items but didn't pay anything.  Looks like the CDN custom didn't opened my box to whats inside.  On the box, there's item description saying "Personal Massager" which is somewhat true LOL.  Hope this helps.

For me, I have ordered twice (this Christmas being my second time), I noticed that I didn't have to pay duties during the first time and was not charged HST (don't know why but its cool). With that advantage it certainly encourage me to buy from TD more than from local novelty stores because I am paying a fixed shipping fee rather than that horrendous 13%.

Depending on what option you choose (I picked the pricier one because of the savings), it usually comes within 5-8 days and you usually pick it up at your local post office. Do keep in mind that you should subtract 8 days from any holiday to avoid further delays in shipping (because post offices do not ship on statutory holidays).it will say plastic toy then toy accessories for other things (massagers are named differently as noted to the post above).

TD is actually one of the few companies that do not charge HST for Canadian clients (touch wood). I am grateful for that.

GST, PST, and other sales tax can not be controlled by us. It will ultimately depend on the Canadian post whether a GST/PST will be imposed. We have seen some packages needing sales tax while others didn't.

If I recall each time I've ordered the package always stated "personal massager" on the outside.  Hate customs, the mailmen know more about my personal habits than my own wife does lol.

All taxes needs to be paid. I live in B.C. It always take somewhere around 2 weeks for me to receive the package. (Which has nothing to do with TD of course, they ship right away) It's the damned Canadian customs, not only do they hold packages for so long, they poke holes in my toys to check for drugs (A very plausible theory since it happened 2 times), which always result in noticable damage.>:( One of the hole rendered my hip no longer air tight, It's not a noticible "Hole" , it look like a small scratch on the hip, but if you blow air into it, it will sound like a loose fart and the hole will show. The end of my Maria Ozawa is a little torn but still air tight.

I think awhile back in the MOD section there was a topic about fixing your toys..if you want to search for it. But using a sodder iron will melt the hole back together..or fix any rips on your toy if you just cut a piece of silicone from part of another unused toy to use as spare silicone...it'll solve your air leak problem..it might not look as nice as it originally is..somewhat of a burned victim scar =) ..but nonetheless..will fix the hole... if your not worry about how the toy looks and just how it functions..then you can give it a try. good luck

Wow that's horrible, hope none of my future purchases don't have to go through that...

I'm from Toronto and my order was completed on Dec 27.  The delivery notice came today (Jan 5), so it took 8 business days.  I was also shocked to see that I'll have to pay nearly $30 when I pick it up... My order was only $115 after shipping costs.  That's like 26%... Did you guys have to pay this much?

Yes, I paid about 30 dollars too on orders over 100 dollars. I feel they may be ripping people off since most people are ignorant about import taxation laws like me.

I think it depends on the price of the item. Items around 120 typically cost 20 to 30 at the local post office.

It was actually just under $20 in fees.  The postman's 1 looked like a 2.

The breakdown was 13% HST plus $5 handling.
