Eventual price change
« on: August 31, 2010, 01:01:36 PM »
As some of you know the Japanese Yen has been getting stronger during the last couple of years. When we first launched ToyDemon.com a couple of years ago, it was 120 yen to 1 US dollar. Since that time, USD has drop to 82 yen to 1 US dollar.(32% change) During this time, our prices have dropped while it cost us more and more for these items. We are closely monitoring the Yen/USD situation and hope it will get better. Other companies has already adjusted their Tenga prices to compensate. We have hold off a price change for as long as we can but it is likely we will adjust prices in the coming quarter to reflect the dire YEN/USD situation.

We wanted to give all our great forum members a heads up about this.

It will be the beginning of next quarter. We don't know the date yet as we are hoping USD will recover a bit.

Upcoming quarter I would assume October then? Thanks TD for the heads up and let us know. Better than other companies that just spike their prices for no reason. I better stock up on some stuff before the prices change then!

Hey TD sorry to burst your bubble, but this simply isn't true at all.  The Japanese yen has hovered over 120 yen in 2007 and only lasted for ~ 4 months.  Since then the currancy rate has decreased due to global trade.  Today it hovers around 82-85 for 1 USD, 82 in the mornings and 85 at night, when the US stock market is running and the Japanese sleep and vice versa.  To say in the last year there was a 32% change is a drastic mistake.  In 2008 it was around 104 yen to 1 USD, and in 2009 LAST YEAR it was around 90 yen.  That is not a 32% change, more like a 8.9% change.  Also, you have to factor in things like the Japanese market...they haven't gotten rich all of a sudden.  Example look at the Canadian dollar, they are on somedays greater than 1 USD, but if you go to Canada everything costs much more due to taxes and other fees.  The same thing needs to be considered for Japan and I can guarantee you the Japanese prices aren't going down.

We never said in our post that there was a 32% change since last year ???. just last couple of years since the beginning when ToyDemon was formed back in 2007.... which match your numbers.

We never get market rate when we pay for shipments(we wish we do), we've already seen 81 YEN/1 USD an recent wirings attempts when the market rate at that moment was 84 YEN/1 USD

We also are not saying this is sudden but through these few year we have continue to slowly lower prices while the product is slowly costing us more. Eventually there comes a point where one of the two event has to stop.

There has certainly been a decrease in exchanges rates.  It could be a more supply/demand issue was well.

Mmmmm..nope...the other way around ...I remember when USD/YEN was 1:100 forever...which means a 1000Yen japanese product would cost you 10 dollars USD...at current exchange rate of 1:85.. that same product would cost you 11.76 USD... our dollar is worth less...so sad!! :'(
