[Help] Meiki ZXY peeling surface
« on: September 16, 2015, 09:15:10 PM »
I just recently bought my first Meiki. I've only used it a couple of times, but I'm having an issue with the outer surface; it's pilling up like worn clothes. There are little brown specks and tiny blobs are over it, and I can't seem to get rid of them.

Does anyone know what's going on, and how I might fix/avoid this issue?

Welcome to the forum.

It sounds like you may need to powder the outside of the meiki.  Just use baby powder or corn starch and spread/pat with your hands until even.  You will need to do this every once in awhile to keep the surface of the meiki from getting too sticky and to keep it feeling like real skin.

You may also have to re-evaluate how you are storing it?  The meiki storage bags that TD sells work great for keeping the meiki clean and easy to handle.

Other than that, I can't think of what might cause what you explained to happen.  I hope this helps.

brown specs and blobs??? i hope it's not molding.. make sure your toy is completely dry before you store it away.

I don't have any experience with the materials meiki uses, but I know that from my personal experience with cyberskin, it has never molded even with a somewhat wet interior left to air dry.

I would say that unless your hands were dirty or whatever else, it has to be mold.....especially if it seems like it's dyed into the material rather than just a clump on the surface.

unless you store these types of toys in the lint free bags like the meiki toy bag, you're definitely going to end up with a nasty looking surface.  always keep these toys away from sheets/covers/shirts/etc.....also always clean yourself off well before use, since you'll probably have bits of lint from clothing on you without realizing it.

I typically go through the extra work to keep these things clean, like holding it open in front of a blower fan to dry out the internals, putting a very generous amount of talcum powder all over, including the inside (which I rinse off before each use).  It might seem like a pain, but these toys do degrade quickly and start losing their oils and feeling nasty if you don't.

Only way to get rid of mold is to cut it out and give it a good cleaning.  You don't want to mess with black mold, its effects on your health might not be noticeable at first.    If the infestation is bad enough, I'd say just toss the toy.
