Hello guys,

I think the question should be whether Meiki is safe to use for long term or not? I'm talking about years of using rather than phthalate free or paraben free or not. Searching through the internet but none of them mentioning what is the material they are using for meiki.

I noticed there is some kind like oil left no matter how old is your meiki is. I put dry meiki onto the cardboard, after you left it overnight you can see oil stained the cardboard.

Unlike SOM, they mention clearly on the website the material they are using is 'septon', normally use in medical service.

Oily Residue: Because phthalates are not chemically bound to the Polyvinyl Chloride, or PVC plastics they are added to, after time they leech out and form an oily residue on the surface. Vibrators with an oily residue should be avoided.

TPR/TPE/Elastomer:
Thermoplastic Rubber. This version IS porous, but it’s still a better material to choose over jelly/rubber as it usually has less or no chemical smell to it and is a somewhat higher quality material than jelly/rubber. Strong, will last a long time.Phthalates-free.

Just about all of my meiki's will seep oil like the pic you posted, including the more expensive ones from NPG.  I store all of my meiki's in one of TD's storage bags.  You have to remember that the toys will seep oil when coming up with a storage solution.

Thanks for the reply. I've asked meiki company in Japan but they were unable to confirm what is the 'oil' and whether it's safe or not. They can only say Japan has strong standard for product safety. Hope this helps for everyone who are looking this kind of information if it is important for you.

EDIT: When asked about the material, they said they do not have the information and then the message above followed.


Safety of sex toy materials is not exactly a black and white thing. People really focus on phthalates an awful lot; and while I absolutely agree that they’re terrible, they’re not the only thing about a sex toy that can harm you. There are many nasty chemicals. Heavy metals like cadmium can be present.

However there are more occasions that the products are named as the production of Japan, it's actually outsourced and manufactured from China for mass production.  Not sure if it is still as good quality and high standard as in the older day.

It says made in Japan. Not sure if it is manufactured in China. Even fleshlight when I asked them why FL left 'oil' residue they say the material is company's secret (as you can see from their website). The 'oil' comes off only if you use soap to clean your hand, there is absolutely no way you can clean the 'oil' on your hand without soap. That's why you want to ask them will this substance enter your body? Hopefully they will give you some answer.

I would agree, a very scary issue . I also have done a lot of digging and have used my toys sparingly just to be safe. My understanding of the chemistry of these materials is that the silicone/rubber is blended with a mineral oil. The toys like Maria and "life like" skin toys are essentially actually oil soaking in a rubber sponge, and that is why they are so stretchy and its that oil that seeps out. Things like vinyl toys use plasticizers that contain phthalates which smell terrible to make them soft. if you've ever owned a cheap vibrator you know that smell. That is not what the meikis are made of. The issue becomes if those oils in meikis are absorbable into the mucus membranes and if they are, what the hell is in them. Short of sending a piece of a meiki into an independent chemistry lab we probably will never know. Also remember its the dose that makes the poison. The contents of the oil may be "toxic" but at what dose. Also for all we know the contents of that oil may be good for you. I really think that over time more consumers will demand answers about whats in their toys they are spending good money on.

I think they won't be able to provide health and safety guarantee or standard in terms of its relation to their toys' material because it is secret. They probably think it's not meant to be eaten so it doesn't have to be regulated. Unless it contains no chemical, I doubt it will be 100% safe, there was a study even wearing condom can increase the risk of cancer.

If they can produce organic or vegan condom, I don't see why they can't develop it for male sex toys. I think that's a good idea. Until today, there is no sex toy company in the world has the capacity to describe why is the sex toy 'leaking', looks like they use pretty much the same material but different yet no one is able to say what is that 'oil'.

The question is it's not phthalate free or not but is the sex toy free from harmful substances or not. Just my 2cents.
