... is a good idea, but I heard that the geared motor contains a plastic gear, designed to strip. At a the price of $200, I call it "nasty, capitalist engineering technique and rip-off!". Jeez, I'm glad to have read about it...
Hence, since I already successfully and cheaply (for around $100) tinkered my Venus2000 clone, I was thinking of building a lasting (all metal gear), compact "Rends piston" type unit; to use while traveling.

I'm still in the planing stage. My rough idea is using two PVC tubes, the KASHIN Version 5 liner, a 24Vdc geared CANON camera motor and a small full-wave speed control. Maybe there's a better idea to slide the the inner tube, but felt seems to be quieter. To reduce motor noise transfer to the PVC outer tubing, I'll rubber-mount it. Here's my initial idea:
