Meiki Dual Layer
« on: October 25, 2012, 04:24:27 AM »
Hello, since dual layer Meikis are available for quite a while, can somebody tell me about the durability and quality of that design? My guess is that it will somehow peel off after some uses but how does it affect its use and hygiene (especially if water and other stuff get inside the small holes it should be more difficult to clean since you cannot turn it inside out). I'm thinking about to buy one of those "perfect meiki principle" Onaholes to test those dual layers- but I think I should first ask around.

For dual layer meikis, I have the YJY and ZXY.  Both meikis inner layer has started to deteriorate and pieces come off with every use.  That said, it doesn't seem to effect actual use of the meiki.  Eventually it will, but for now it's OK.  I've had both for over 6 months.  The YJY meiki seems to be deteriorating faster than the ZXY, but YMMV.

The deterioration doesn't effect hygiene as far as I can see.  I just stuff a corner of a microfiber clothe into the meiki all the way to the end and give the meiki a few squeezes to catch all of the moisture inside, repeat if necessary.

I also have the Seventeen Bordeaux and the Sujimon Kupa Roa.  The inner layer hasn't started to peel at all yet,  but these don't see as much use as the others mentioned above, as I like the ZXY and YJY much more.  But they do seem to be more durable as the materials they are made from are not as soft and delicate IMO.

BTW, I would advise against turning any meiki inside out for cleaning.  I used to do that with my first Maria and it tore pretty badly.  It's too expensive to take that chance just to make it a little easier to clean, at least that's my opinion.  Besides cleaning really isn't so bad.  Just wash out with handsoap using your fingers and dry as stated above, no big deal.
