Has anyone gotten their package stolen when it was dropped off at the door?
« on: August 17, 2012, 04:41:24 PM »
Zetsuna's post about his shipping/package problem got me to my rant here about USPS and why I don't use them........

Has anyone ever had their package stolen when it was left outside your door by USPS? Or even FedEx/UPS?

Through all the items that I have purchased online in the past decade, I think I have gotten 3-4 packages lost/stolen. Which I should be thankful because I buy a lot of items online.

Why do I say lost/stolen? Because all of them were shipped with USPS and I don't know whether it was the incompetency of our United States Postal Service, or the assholes that saw a package and decided to take it.

It usually happens like this:

Order something online, picked the cheapest shipping method / free shipping. Package was shipped with USPS with delivery confirmation. So I mean everything is fine until you check that tracking number because you wonder...hmm..... it's been 7 days since I ordered, it should be here by now. So I check the tracking # again online.......

Delivered.....!?!?!?! WTF, I haven't seen a thing besides junk mail. So I go to the Postal Office and ask.

"It's delivered according to the tracking."

"Well that's why I am here, I didn't receive the package."

"We'll check with the Mail Man that delivers your route. Come back in a couple of days."

Couple of days gone by, still no package.........so I go back to the PO again.

"You guys said you will check with the mailman about my package, any news?"

"Can we have your tracking number? It shows that it's delivered."

"..................."

And shit just keeps going about me not receiving my package and them telling me that there's no insurance on it and that it shows delivered.

The worst thing about all this is that USPS doesn't even bother to acknowledge what has happened so that they can rectify their mistake. Whether it was mis-delivered or someone stealing it my front door, I wish they would put in more effort about caring. Instead, they are all union workers that don't give any shit about their job (not saying this applies to all the mailman out there, but there are a lot of them).

That's why 95% of the time I go with FedEx/UPS and ship it to my work. Signature gets signed and haven't seen had any problems at all.

Rant over.....time to hug my meiki plush doll.

Yea i know what you mean, USPS has terrible service. I've received 3 boxes opened before and another shipment that was ridding on their truck for like 2 weeks but luckily haven't lost any packages. So what do you do in case you loose an expensive 100$+ toy or something? Does somebody refund your money? or is lost for good? Also do you think Fedex is more reliable? My problem is i have to pay so much for shipping since I'm overseas...

I used to think that USPS was pretty bad with delivering packages but actually I've had worse experiences with UPS, mostly damaging my boxes. If you live at home with your parents you should look into getting a P.O. Box for yourself. Especially if your getting "naughty" things. You can actually get a P.O. box anywhere it doesn't have to be the same town you live in, if your afraid someone you know might find out you ordered something "naughty".

Rant over.....time to hug my meiki plush doll.

LOL.. :D  that was a good one...

I too buy a crapload of items online...also lost a few of them especially ones with USPS shipment that shows "Delivered" I assume those were stolen..these days I only trust them with anything i buy under $10 that I can afford to lose since it's cheap and i wont sweat over it....I feel you KUOPC..I've talk to the postman many times about lost package w/o any type of remedy since they just dont care..if it shows deliver they're thought process is that it's done...they won't give it a second thought compare to FedEx which will initiate a package trace where the driver who delivered the box will trace back his route to make sure he delivered to the right place. I don't fault the shipper who I bought from since they did their job of sending the package out using the shipping method I made  :-\ but many times the companies that have great customer service will take the time to give me some help with the package which relieve some of my stress and anger.

O by the way...a piece of goood advice here with USPS if you ship things with them....their so call "Signature Delivery" option that you can add when you ship out package is just a tactic they use to rob more of our hard earn money...one time I sent a package with "Signature Delivery" and the package was delivered crushed..the box was all pretty broken...there was a signature on the slip "supposedly" but the receiver told me he did not sign anything...the box was just left in his mailbox, content of the box was all render uselessssss." I went to the post office to complain..and all I got was because I didnt add "Insurance" there was no refund from them... so basically if your going to use USPS and want any type of safety against lost pkg...get insurance..and dont use signature add-on..it's garbage...USPS just won't help you if you dont get insurance.

I think there's a reason USPS is going bankruptcy..... they're ripping ppl off with their "We Don't Care" mentality...

Great...now i'm ranting as well...lol

Time to hug my meiki plush doll as well..gimmi some love baby :'(

I've never lost anything through the mail or got anything stolen and i use ups/fed-ex, but reading this is making me think twice.

Maybe i should get a P.O box, i assume that's the safest?

In response to you preferring UPS/Fedex over USPS, I just wanted to say I'm on the opposite end of that scale, and for those worried about ordering through USPS, that it's likely selective to your county/state, rather than the system itself.

I've never had a package stolen from my doorstep; that said, I live in a rather nice town, so that may be the reason. But that out of the way, I prefer USPS over FedEx/UPS. I've noticed with both FedEx and UPS, that if you order a package, they'll deliver it on the scheduled date no matter what! And you may be thinking, "Well, Muffins, isn't that a good thing?" Depends, but there's a nasty side to it. For example, I just ordered something through Toydemon, and it's being delivered via FedEx. It was scheduled to arrive at my doorstep on Monday, August 20th. But here's the kicker, the package arrived at a neighbouring town this morning. Meaning, if FedEx really wanted to, they could have delivered the package today, without them going out of their way at all. I've noticed this before, as well. Even if your package arrives early (in your state), you won't get it until the scheduled arrive date comes. But you see, this doesn't happen with USPS. They'll bring it to your doorstep regardless of the scheduled date; if it arrives in your county early, you get it early. So why is this? I'm pretty sure it's because USPS is not-for-profit (it's actually in debt). I.e, FedEx and UPS hold your package(s) because if they arrived early, you wouldn't have as much of a reason to spend more on faster shipping. It's a very good example of Corporate America. And FedEx has a right to do this, but I still feel it's rotten nonetheless.

Going on, every package I've received from the USPS has been immaculate. So for anyone worried about ordering through USPS, check up on those around you to see what they're like. They're not always bad.
