Is drying the inside of your toy every time excessive?
« on: December 06, 2011, 12:25:11 PM »
I've been thinking about this for awhile, and it seems to me that drying the inside of your toy everytime you use it might be a bit excessive if you use it regularly. Of course I'm not saying to store it for long periods of time wet; but if you use it almost daily like I often do, it's going to get wet and cleaned again within 24 hours. Therefore, I'm thinking why even subject it to a bunch of rough toweling when you could just leave it a bit moist but sanitized. Come to think of it, I bet there are cleaning solutions like they have at TD that you could spray down inside your sleeve to keep it microbially clean for even longer periods of time after it's initial washing.

That's what I do when I'm using a sleeve daily. Clean it out with soap before and after using the sleeve. The bacterial growth in that 24 hour period is completely neglectable. If you really think about it. Your sleeve is actually way more clean than your mouth after 24 hours, since the bacteria that's left in the sleeve have little organic material to work with in order to replicate. What I differ from you is that, I never ever use antibacterial cleaners because they can create superbugs. Harmful germs and bacteria will become more resilient to these antibacterials the more frequent you use them.

Kiss, it's nice to hear that I'm not the only one doing a simpler method for cleaning our favorite toys. As for creating super bugs by using powerful cleaning agents, I really don't know enough to comment that it would/would not happen in the home environment. However, it's certainly plausible given the fact that it does occur in the hospital. Up until now, I've used nothing stronger then mild soap and chlorinated water to clean my sleeves, but you do bring up a good point that there is some risk if we get too overzealous cleaning our toys with strong cleaners.

If I were to use the same toy again within 24 hours or so (which I've only done twice) I wouldn't even bother to dry it at all, just a good clean and rinse.  Then, a quick rinse with very warm water right before use to bring it up to a realistic feeling temperature.

I just sprinkle baby powder insider her and put her away to air dry. Maybe try a hair dryer to speed up the process.

I usually just leave it with entrance facing down to drain excess water and let it air dry..so far it's been working out very well w/o any problems, I haven't really got to using baby powder to protect the surface of the toy..but maybe I'll try that method.

as for using a hair dryer to dry the water..I've not tried it..but i'd probably be careful since the dryer will be pretty hot to a point it might damage or even melt the silicone ???
