What I bought on Black Friday
« on: November 24, 2011, 11:50:33 PM »
Just placed my order for the following items:

1. Meiki Zhang Xiao Yu ZXY
2. Meiki Omanko Monaka Shirai Yukina
3. Sena Aragaki OL2 Love Lotion 360 ml
4. Sex Toy Bag - Large
5. e-Rotar vibrator (pink)

Found the bag and the vibrator in the "bargain bin" section. I got them so would put me over $100 for free shipping. Doubt I'll ever use the vibrator myself. I think I'll save it and give it to a female friend.

What'd you buy???

Nothing  ;). i am starting to understand store markups, sales, and how much we really are being ripped off.  I have talked to Macy CFOs and got the skinny on their markups, now thinking about TD and their markups.  I use to work at a shirt printing place as well, and those markups were crazy high to, but not as high as Macy' 1300%, that's right 1300%, markups; something that they sell for 100$ costs them between 4-7.59$ to produce and buy.  TD surely isn't like this, but those meikis probably (VERY likely less) cost them around 5-10$ to produce (that is NPGs end).  NPG probably charges between 50-100% for the cost of one sleeve, and lets not forget these are produced in mass production, that also saves a lot of money on their end.  TD probably gets one meiki (NPG) sleeve for 25-30$.  And their markup is up to 90$.  I look at my white see thru plastic box of toys and ask myself "do i really need another toy?"  and the answer is no, HELL NO.  out of the 10 or so toys i have i dont even use half of them, i am set for a lifetime as far as toys go.  my life style is more towards need based now a days, and i would rather spend my hard earned money on my family.

looks like a lot of you old members are the same, picking up a lot of lube seems like the logical thing to buy (for me anyways).

Almost all the sleeves on our site is hand-made and not massively produced, kinda like rubber Halloween masks. Our margins are actually mighty thin.... We would love to get these at $30

I am pretty sure I saw a molding printing press machine online, I can find it again if you would like me to.  I also found whole sellers as well, that show prices on batches.  I just thought it was interesting to note, perhaps something to like into.  If they are the machines they use to make meiki products it might be something to explore as a business option, instead of dealing with overseas options.

Thanks

I would buy a lot of 10 gallon containers, chemicals, test tubes, and beakers to make my own lube, but I'm already on a DEA watch list after my meth lab got busted =)

About what yourself is saying, I really doubt everything Macy's sells is at 1300% markup. I have a friend that does design for Whirlpool which sells their kitchen appliance and such to Macy's and I am certain those stainless KitchenAid stand mixers don't cost $20, that's just absurd.

Besides, you have to look at Macy's employees, how many ppl do they employ? Marketing whether TV or print is not cheap. Mall space rentals and everything?

I used to own my business and if everything is as black and white as buying in at $20 and selling it $100 then my business would still around.

In the end, market will determine whether the item is overpriced or that it's just right. With the internet age that we live in, everything is being sold everywhere, if you don't like something being sold by someone, find someone else.

no, not everything is like this, only specialty items are, such as sex toys. heres another kicker, my friends dad work for pepsi, when i was younger i use to head over to the pepsi center buildings to get a ride with my buddy and his dad home.  while i was there i remember them having 12 oz cans for sale in vending machines for 0.10 $ and 20 oz bottles in vending machines for 0.20$.

the market usually does determine the price, HOWEVER, when the suppliers are slim to none, or only one (monopoly) they can charge whatever they want and people will buy it or they will stop buying it, such as meikis.  There are several other sellers out there of meiki products that sell for 5-10 $ less, a simple google search will affirm this.  i am not bitching about prices, i am only stating what the business structure is in every business, and why i didnt buy anything this sale.  maybe its just me being a more family oriented person or the fact i have been getting ripped off for a long time, which ever it is it prevented me from purchasing anything from TD on the black friday sale, not just TD though, all other sales as well.  The sales arent really sales in my mind, a real sale would be drastic, and sometimes TD does this, but it is hard to know whether that is the cheapest youll ever get something or if it will be cheaper in a later "sale".

In response to Yourself first - Most businesses make 50% profit.  That's the general rule.  Clothing retail is the exception and have the highest mark-up.  That's about it though.

If you look into the "high end love doll" world, the silicone they use alone can cost almost $3k.  Plus the artist work they actually put into it.  Not saying Meiki's are the same way but they are most certainly better than everything else.

Politics and business working aside what I got:

Meiki Sarah - Since my maria ozawa needs to be put to rest.
I really wanted the meiki nao to be on sale but it wasnt.
So in my irrational thinking I got the Meiki Hera instead.  It's new so I thought why not.  Plus I hadn't bought anything else that day so I figured i'll go all out with this one thing.
Plus more Lube.
I still might go back and get the ZXY
