Just realized "Meiki" is not a "Brand".

I have just NOW realized that there are several manufacturers that make "Meiki" products..
I have an NPG "Sarah" and just ordered a DNA Clone Meiki® Kurusu Kitazawa.

what makes a "Meiki" a "Meiki" and how do the brands compare?

While Meiki is a brand name is the most technical sense, who owns the rights to it in which territory for what exact use I cant say nor do I bother with.  The real trick to it when you have access to multicountry offerings like at TD is manufacturer. TD even has a button so you can sort by just that if you like.

As for your specific example, the Clone Meikis are going to be softer than the NPG and pillow soft next to the one you have (Sarah).  One is not universally superior to the other. They are just different. Which you will prefer is debatable and really only known by trying.

Both are very well liked and the Clone is said to be near bombproof if cared for properly. 

I'd say you have very differing sleeves which will give you two totally different sensations to chose from. And in even the smallest collection, choice is an excellent thing.

Me too. Also that XYZ  and ABC or whatever they are have not been discontinued it's just posters don't like typing Chinese Roman characters.
