I have to say...it doesn't feel all that good it's like I'm rubbing against rubber and yes I put the lube that was included. I also have that feeling like when your rubbing against something and your penis is like numb not really feeling anything at all. I can tell you are a first time user, cuz that is the same reaction I had to my first sex toy experience.  The burning is most likely from the lube entering, I suggest a different lube, water based...most of the free lube these days is terrible.  The reason you aren't feeling the toys softness is because you have DGS...Death Grip Syndrome.  This is from using your hand for so long that it actually desensitizes your penis, and that's why the hand feels better, because you are use to that level of grip and friction.  You need to use only the toy exclusively to get your sensitivity back.  It is hard to not use the hand, but once you achieve a higher level of sensitivity you will NEVER go back to the hand.

Yup this sounds like a classic case of DGS. Like explained earlier just lay off the hand and the sensitivity will return. Imo you won't need to follow the exact routine unless you have a serve case of DGS and the "Fleshlight Plan" can be done with really any toy. Even if this is not a case of DGS, there are two things you should keep in mind.
1) it takes time to get used to it. The first time i used zxy i was kinda disappointed, and now after a year im still crazy about it.
2) experiment with different lubes and/or modify the tightness by wrapping it. It makes
